I realize we all get sick. I also realize that most illnesses have multisymptoms. Fortunately our last bouts of illness have all only had one symptom, until last week. Poor J woke up out of no where with "rapid onset croup". We've had croup before, but this was our worst. I thought he was having an asthma attack and treated him with "wheezy" our penguin nebulizer. When the second round of that didnt work I gave him the oral steroid we now keep on hand after our really REALLY scary asthma attack in January. I started packing for the hospital while we waited for the medicine to kick in and the on-call nurse to call back. Fortunatly, that worked and found out at the doctors the next morning, that croup and asthma are given the same oral steroid when in severe distress. Then we really started to snow ball. I talked to Martha (the on call nurse) every night this week, asking her questions like, his fever was 104.3 and the tylenol only brought it down to 103.9, is it safe for all 5 of these medicines to be given at once, he is still breathing 57 breaths per minute and nothing is slowing him down. Thats the one that landed me back in the doctors office. Poor J had croup, fever, asthma, ear infection, conjunctivitic, and pneumonia! Thanks to modern medicine, he still sounds like a seal, but feels much better.
Now little T has a fever, and N is barking. Ready for round 2 - DING!
