Since we were driving home from Sierra Vista on Presidents Day, we just got around to learning a little something about Abe Lincoln. Things the kids found the most interesting were that his face is on the penny, he grew up in a really small log cabin, and a story I hadn't heard before about an 11 year old girl that wrote a letter to Abe Lincoln while he was running for president. She told him he would look much better with a beard and more ladies would vote for him and convince their husband to as well. Lincoln grew the beard and after he was elected passed through this little girls town. When he learned she was in the crowd he was speaking to, he walked over and gave her a big "fatherly" kiss.
The beard might have worked for Abe but as for these two future presidents, I prefer them clean shaven.
